چکیده

Climate variability has major implications for agriculture due to the increase in frequency and intensity of simultaneous abiotic, namely water-stress, biotic stresses crops. Plant water-stress alone harms crops but also can attract outbreaks herbivores with varied host specialization, plants succumb further yield losses dealing multiple stressors. Host plant resistance provides a route lessen from herbivory; however, our knowledge interactions between pest is limited, especially mite maize including generalist two-spotted spider (Tetranychus urticae, TSM) specialist Banks grass (Oligonychus pratensis, BGM). We conducted parallel greenhouse field experiments whereby susceptible line (B73) two TSM-resistant lines (B75 B96) were subjected either optimal irrigation or [50–60% 5–10% volumetric water content (VWC), 25–32% 10–15% VWC, field, respectively] test whether pest-resistant maintain their when exposed water-stress. found that under irrigation, TSM BGM populations increased readily on B73, while B75 B96 largely resistant not BGM. While susceptibility B73 both species, did disrupt initial levels species. Elevated protease activity was may contribute resistance. Our findings are highly TSM, species highlight importance nuances stressors within framework

Relationships Between Seedling Growth Rate and Yield of Maize Cultivars Under Normal and Water Stress Conditions

Abstract Effects of water stress on root and leaf growth rates and their relationships with yield under normal and water stress conditions were examined at the Greenhouse and Research Field of Faculty of Agriculture, Kerman University, Iran, using seven maize cultivars including SC-404, SC-704, BC-666, TC-647, DC-370, Jeta and Kordona. During a period of 14 days, water stress at -0.4 MPa was ...

Maize (Zea Mays L.) Growth and Yield Response to Ethephon Application under Water Stress Conditions

The aim of the present investigation was to study the growth, yield and yield components of maize (Zea mays L.) single cross 704 under different levels of irrigation, plant density, and ethephon in southern Iran where this particular crop has not yet been studied in detail. A field experiment was performed in the 2004 5 growing season at the experimental farm of the College of Agriculture, Shir...

Resistance to Wheat Curl Mite in Arthropod-Resistant Rye-Wheat Translocation Lines

The wheat curl mite, Aceria toschiella (Keifer), and a complex of viruses vectored by A. toschiella substantially reduce wheat yields in every wheat-producing continent in the world. The development of A. toschiella-resistant wheat cultivars is a proven economically and ecologically viable method of controlling this pest. This study assessed A. toschiella resistance in wheat genotypes containin...

Combining Ability among Twenty Insect Resistant Maize inbred lines Resistant to Chilo partellus and Busseola fusca Stem borers

A partial diallel design was used among 20 maize inbred lines to form 110 F1 hybrids to generate information on the values of these lines for developing insect resistant maize varieties during the short rains season of 2006. The hybrids were evaluated for resistance to the C. partellus and B. fusca, and for agronomic performance over two seasons during long and short rains of 2007 at a mid-alti...
